Senior Water Maintenance Engineer

The role
The Senior Water Maintenance Engineer leads a small team of maintenance technicians responsible for delivering maintenance services for SEW’s large water and recycled water network. You will ensure that water network issues and failures are repaired by our Industry Partners in an efficient and timely manner, in accordance with SEW’s Customer Charter, strategic initiatives and asset management plans.
Some day-to-day accountabilities of the Senior Water Maintenance Engineer include:
- Lead investigations of water network failures to quickly restore services and minimise disruptions to customers and property
- Review and develop procedures, work instructions and technical standards on best practice water network maintenance
- Assess network performance to identify improvements and deliver greater efficiencies
- Monitor and report on the performance of SEW’s Industry Partners undertaking reactive, planned and scheduled water network activities in accordance with contract and regulatory requirements
- Delivery of the water service renewal capital program and coordinating water main reinstatements where trees and other obstructions inhibit repairs and renewals
- Provide engineering analysis and advice to internal and external stakeholders and customers on all water maintenance, operation or system related matters
Central to this role are responsibilities for 24/7 safe operation to provide support and minimise disruption of services to customers and as well as ensuring that public health and the environment are not put at risk. This includes participation in a rostered after-hours duty team, emergency response, and incident support as required.
Who are you?
Holding tertiary qualifications in Civil, Environmental or similar Engineering, you will hold expertise in one or more aspects of the recycled water network asset lifecycle, including asset management, planning, design, construction, operation and/or maintenance.
Additionally, you will hold the following skills and attributes:
- Proficiency using technology related to works management including GIS and SCADA systems, coupled with the ability to identify innovative solutions for system inefficiencies
- A ‘customer first’ mindset, with strong stakeholder and conflict management skills and an ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- In depth understanding and demonstrated experience in financial and numerical literacy and budget management
- Strong project management, contract management, stakeholder management and negotiation skills
- Experience managing complex network issues and failures, problem diagnosis, with excellent judgement and decision-making skills
- A background in people management, with an ability to lead small teams and develop competencies of the team through coaching and support
