Senior Engineer Water Operations

The role

 

We’re seeking a Senior Engineer, Water Operations, to join our Service Delivery group at South East Water. Reporting directly to our Lead Engineer Water Operations, you’ll be providing technical expertise and engineering support for timely delivery of asset management plans, associated budgets, and projects to ensure our organisation is capable of meeting operational, financial, regulatory, and corporate performance goals relating to the water and alternative water supply networks.

 

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to:

 

  • Work closely with and lead Water Operations Technicians and contractors responsible for the day-to-day operations of the drinking water and alternate water supply networks.
  • Ensure we’re compliant with relevant regulations related to the operation of the water and alternative water supply networks, and the supply of high quality safe drinking water to customers and following the correct safety protocols, standards and regulations.
  • Provide expert specialist engineering advice for the delivery of projects on the water network.
  • Ensure inspections, repairs and upgrades take place to ensure the reliability and efficiency of plant, equipment, and facilities such as, but not limited to, pump stations, storage tanks, floating covers, pressure reducing stations and monitoring devices.
  • Prepare business cases, purchase orders and monitor and report on the water network operations budgets.
  • Create, review and update emergency response and contingency plans to address water network failures or water quality incidents.
  • Analyse data on flow rates, hydraulic capacity and performance, and other relevant parameters to identify trends, potential issues, and areas for improvement.
  • Build relationships with Melbourne Water, the EPA, Councils, and other Authorities to ensure any impact to the operation of the network with resultant customer disruption is minimised or avoided.

Who are you?

 

You’re an experienced, qualified engineer (civil or related) with Registration as a Professional Engineer in Victoria, Australia (CPEng preferred). You bring to the role your relevant experience and a technical understanding of the water supply system planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance. Experience with hydraulic modelling and/or water quality knowledge is desirable.


The role also requires good conflict resolution abilities whilst maintaining a customer focused attitude, as well as demonstrating sound, clear and persuasive written and verbal communication skills.

 

In addition, we’re looking out for the following skills and experience in our ideal candidate:

 

  • Broad technical knowledge of systems for asset operations including SCADA, works management systems, asset register’s etc.
  • Proven knowledge of OH&S regulations including training in ‘working in confined/restricted space’, ‘working at heights’, ‘install trench support’ etc.
  • Knowledge and understanding of risk management.
  • Demonstrated experience building relationships and managing stakeholders.
  • Good project and time management skills.
  • Good strategic and analytical skills used for planning and problem solving.
