The role
At South East Water, we’re harnessing the power of data to drive smarter decisions and better outcomes for our customers and communities. As our Release and Environments Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in the delivery and evolution of our enterprise Data Analytics Platform, Acumen—built on cutting-edge technologies like Azure Databricks and Microsoft Fabric. This is a full-time, 2 year, maximum term role.
This specialist role is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of platform releases, ensuring the secure, seamless, and timely deployment of updates, enhancements, and new features. You’ll work across a dynamic ecosystem of data engineers, DevOps, project delivery teams, and business stakeholders to manage the end-to-end release lifecycle.
You’ll bring a strong technical foundation in cloud data platforms, a passion for automation, and a knack for orchestrating complex releases across multiple environments. With a focus on governance, risk management, and continuous improvement, you’ll help shape the future of data delivery at South East Water.
Who are you?
We’re looking for a seasoned professional with a strong technical foundation in cloud-based data platforms and a passion for driving excellence in release and environment management. You’ll bring deep expertise in Azure technologies, deployment / DevOps practices, and data governance, along with the ability to lead cross-functional collaboration and continuous improvement.
Candidates will require the following key skills, knowledge and experience to be considered for the role:
- A tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- At least 7 years’ experience in enterprise-scale release, deployment, and environment management for data/cloud solutions.
- Deep knowledge of Azure Databricks, Medallion Architecture, and Microsoft Fabric.
- Ability to manage the coordination of releases across Dev, SIT, UAT/Pre-Prod and Prod.
- Ability to work across multiple delivery streams including; program delivery, BAU delivery and operational delivery.
- Ability to work with different teams, including; data team, platform/DevOps team, project team and business areas.
- Knowledge of data, security and privacy controls and measures.
- Strong knowledge of Unity Catalog governance, including permissions, lineage, and compliance.
- Knowledge of CI/CD practices, including Databricks Asset Bundles, Jobs/Workflows-as-code, Terraform, and Azure DevOps.
- Experience managing data sync across environments within the data platform and coordinating with owners of integrated systems.
- Familiarity with Delta Lake, schema versioning, and data contract management.
- Expertise in observability, FinOps, jobs and pipelines.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Certifications in ITIL, SAFe, or similar frameworks (desirable).
