The role
As a Project Engineer at South East Water (SEW), you’ll be leading projects and managing the design and construction of SEW’s assets in the water and wastewater networks, this includes new pipelines and structures to ensure customer service levels are maintained and growth is achieved.
This is a 12 month maximum term position to cover an employee secondment.
Under direction from the Delivery Team Leader and Delivery Manager, the Project Engineer will:
- Plan and oversee Capital Works projects for water, sewer, and alternative water networks, ensuring compliance with technical standards and regulatory requirements
- Manage the end-to-end project lifecycle, from feasibility and approvals through to construction and handover
- Coordinate with internal teams, contractors, and external stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest safety standards
- Provide input into the functional and detail design phases for projects, to ensure compliance with the intent of the project briefs, answering any technical or engineering queries raised
- Maintain strong community and stakeholder relations, addressing concerns and managing communications throughout project delivery
Who are you?
We are considering candidates with a range of experience levels; this role will be renumerated between a Level 3 to 5 and offers are commensurate with the successful candidates' experience.
Minimum requirements:
- Bachelor of Engineering qualification (4 years)
- Experience in sewer and water infrastructure or a similar industry
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) as recognised by Engineers Australia (or international equivalent) preferred or working towards professional registration
Other preferred skills and experience:
- Knowledge of the relevant OHS codes, standards and legislation
- Demonstrated Project Management skills and an understanding of an infrastructure asset project lifecycle
- Demonstrated leadership, drive, initiative, creativity and a high level of personal motivation
- Experience in the delivery of water, sewer or treatment plant infrastructure
- Broad knowledge of standards and specifications, including relevant WSAA Codes necessary for the design and construction
As of 1 October 2022, Civil Engineers performing professional engineering services in Victoria are required to be Registered with the Building Licencing Authority - Consumers Affairs Victoria.

As part of a team of engineers and technicians, central to this role are responsibilities for 24/7 safe operation to provide support and minimise disruption of services to customers and as well as ensuring that public health and the environment are not put at risk. This includes participation in a rostered after-hours duty team, emergency response, and incident support as required.
