The role

 

The Mechanical Technical Support Officer provides technical direction and advice on mechanical maintenance activities for South East Water’s asset base. This office- and field-based role ensures that mechanical maintenance works delivered by SEW’s Industry Partners and independent contractors meet appropriate technical and regulatory standards, and ensures that SEW’s mechanical asset information is complete, accurate and current. The role has a key focus on SEW’s water recycling plants, but also provides support to the broader water and sewer network.

 

Some key accountabilities of the Mechanical Technical Support Officer include: 

 

  • Investigate faults and failures of mechanical equipment, assess rectification options, and initiate associated maintenance activities
  • Identify, prioritise, scope, and initiate planned and reactive mechanical maintenance activities
  • Prepare work scopes, requests for quotation and cost estimates for the delivery of major capital mechanical maintenance works
  • Liaise closely with SEW operational staff to prioritise and coordinate maintenance activities to minimise operational impact and meet equipment performance requirements
  • Provide specialist technical input to key projects and activities, including annual budget development, asset condition assessment programs, and asset reliability studies

 

As part of a team of engineers and technicians, central to this role are responsibilities for 24/7 safe operation to provide support and minimise disruption of services to customers and as well as ensuring that public health and the environment are not put at risk. This includes participation in a rostered after-hours duty team, emergency response, and incident support as required.

 

Who are you?

 

The successful applicant will hold senior-level mechanical trade certifications, coupled with significant experience in the maintenance of mechanical infrastructure in the water and sewer (or similar) industry. Additionally, you will hold the following skills and attributes:

 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • High level computer skills, including extensive experience with Works Management Systems
  • High level of attention to detail, as well as excellent organisational skills
  • Sound financial and numeracy skills
  • Experience with asset registers, inventory management systems, procurement processes, contract management processes, business case development, technical report writing, and development of technical spreadsheets and/or databases is highly desirable

This role is remunerated at a Level 5, which is between $112,377 and $118,760 + super and offers are commensurate with the successful candidates' experience.
