The role

 

A key member of the Service Delivery leadership team, the Group Manager Sewerage Service leads all aspects of Sewerage Services, aligning to South East Water’s strategy and plans associated with asset infrastructure worth over $4 billion.


Reporting to the General Manager Service Delivery, you will provide leadership and direction to ensure the efficient running of sewerage operations, planned and reactive sewerage maintenance, sewage spill response, EPA liaison, pressure sewerage systems, asset integration, management of delivery partners, as well as response and support for emergencies across South East Water’s assets and functions. 


While no two days are the same in this role, some day-to-day tasks may include: 

 

  • Leadership, delegation, coaching and development of the teams responsible for the day-to-day and long-term operation and maintenance of the sewerage network
  • Drive a safety culture across the branch, ensuring risk is eliminated or controlled beyond compliance
  • Take ownership of and build a culture of continual improvement across all fronts, including OHS, customer, environment, compliance and other authority requirements
  • Develop & execute strategies to ensure safer, higher performing and more effective outcomes across the portfolio of Sewerage operations and maintenance
  • Achieve corporate targets and service standards through the development of workforce planning processes, systems and reporting to deliver greater efficiencies
  • Provision of high-level advice to the South East Water Executive team via presentation, technical papers and advisories, relating to the performance of the group key performance indicators including the operational relationships with the EPA

 

 

Who are you?

 

The preferred candidate will be a tertiary-qualified Engineer, with demonstrable experience in leading a large, multidisciplined and high performing team. Holding a ‘customer first’ mindset and excelling in the optimisation of processes, systems and resources, you will also hold the following skills and attributes:  

 

  • An exceptionally safety and performance orientated person is required for this business-critical role
  • Ability to develop and set a vision for the group that will lead to improved short- and longer-term outcomes
  • Extensive experience in the design, construction, operations, and maintenance of utility networks and ancillaries
  • Proven ability to effectively and comprehensively deliver against a range of complex KPIs
  • Proven ability to use technical expertise to develop and drive strategies, planning and executing key business processes and influence key stakeholders to achieve better results
  • Experience and delivery in an environment undergoing significant digital transformation
  • Strong technical understanding in quality systems, continual improvement approaches, public health, environmental monitoring and management systems
  • Proven leadership skills and demonstrated success in driving high employee engagement

As part of a team of emergency response personnel, central to this role are responsibilities for 24/7 safe operation to provide support and minimise disruption of services to customers and as well as ensuring that public health and the environment are not put at risk. This includes participation in a rostered after-hours duty team, emergency response, and incident support as required.
