Energy, Carbon and Resource Recovery Planner

The role
The Energy, Carbon and Resource Recovery Planner leads Circular Economy initiatives at South East Water, focussing on energy, carbon and resource recovery at our water recycling plants (WRPs). You’ll develop innovative strategies, deliver business cases, and drive early-stage projects that contribute to a low-carbon, circular economy future.
This role is highly dynamic and comes with a diverse range of key accountabilities. While no two days look the same, some day-to-day activities might include the following:
- Provide expertise and advice to internal teams on energy, greenhouse emissions and resource recovery
- Develop innovative business models around latest technologies and drive programs which reduce emissions and support a circular economy, including energy from waste and solar and/or energy storage solutions
- Investigate and plan opportunities to pursue recovery of valuable resources, optimise energy consumption, generate renewable energy or reduce carbon emissions at our WRPs
- Collaborate with a vast range of stakeholders including at internal Executive and Board level, along with other external stakeholders such as other water corporations, VicWater, Victorian EPA, DEECA and Shire Councils
The role is available as a maximum-term contract, to cover parental leave for a period of 12 months.
Who are you?
We're looking for someone who is degree-qualified and is passionate about finding and driving innovative solutions for long-term sustainability outcomes.
Additionally, you'll hold the following skills and attributes:
- Demonstratable experience in water or other utilities, or environmental industries working in energy, emissions or resource recovery, or equivalent experience in a related context such as design, policy-setting or regulation
- Understanding of policy, regulations and economics that govern energy and carbon markets
- Familiarity with energy and greenhouse emissions (Scopes 1, 2 and 3) as they relate to sewage treatment facilities or similar sites or industries
- Experience in analysing and developing business cases for energy, carbon or resource recovery projects
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to inform, influence and exchange knowledge to a range of stakeholders

This role is remunerated at a Level 5, which is between $112,377 and $125,011 + super and offers are commensurate with the successful candidates' experience.
