The role

 

Are you passionate about the future of Artificial Intelligence and its responsible use? South East Water is seeking a motivated and outcome-focused AI Lead to help drive the safe, ethical, and strategic adoption of AI across the organisation. In this pivotal role, you’ll work closely with business leaders to embed and facilitate AI governance, boost AI literacy, and unlock innovative opportunities that enhance operations and deliver real value.  This is a maximum-term, 12 month role.

 

You’ll champion responsible AI practices aligned with our values and frameworks, ensuring we stay ahead of emerging risks while maintaining public trust and regulatory compliance. If you're ready to help shape the future of AI in a purpose-driven organisation, then this role is for you!

Who are you?

 

Armed with an Information Technology degree, or demonstrated experience working with IT and/or AI implementation, the successful candidate will possess a minimum of three years' experience in stakeholder management, with an ability to negotiate requirements and business needs across diverse teams.

 

As well as a keen interest in AI technologies and their ethical application, the following key skills, knowledge and experience will ensure success in the role:

 

  • Background in project management, planning, coordination or business/tech analysis.
  • Strong documentation and presentation skills, confident presenting to senior leaders.
  • Solid understanding of AI ethics, governance, and regulatory compliance (Victorian Government guidance a plus).
  • Hands-on experience with AI technologies including machine learning, NLP, Agentic and generative AI.
  • Proven ability to support AI strategy implementation in corporate or public sector settings.
  • Skilled in cross-functional collaboration and embedding AI into business processes.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to simplify complex AI concepts and lead workshops.
  • A mindset for innovation, challenging the status quo to drive organisational improvement.
  • Experience supporting enterprise-wide AI adoption and measuring impact.

This role is remunerated at a Level , which is between $115,748 and $128,761 + super and offers are commensurate with the successful candidates' experience.
